Last week, BIM One participated in the CanBIM regional session in Calgary and the event was a great success! We enjoyed the presence of plenty of participants from all around Canada and the US, including partners and clients of ours, and new connections alike. It was a fruitful two-day session for BIM One, which was represented by Jean-François Lapointe, BIM Solutions Director, and myself, BIM Manager and BDM Manager (Western Canada).
On the morning of June 13th, we had a quick presentation by EllisDon team members on the Calgary International Airport project, which was followed by a guided tour. It was interesting to see what kind of challenges the team faced relating to design, construction and coordination in BIM. We visited some of the site locations that tackled these challenges.
We then broke for lunch, which was put on by Stuart Olson (thank you!) to refuel for the second part of the day. In the afternoon, we took in a quick presentation by Stuart Olson members on the Mackimmie Tower Complex Redevelopment at the University of Calgary, followed by a guided tour. The building was completely stripped for the most part, except for the structure, and the team shared their BIM challenges with the existing building and new MEP systems.
In the evening, we had a great time at the reception at the Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire. We had the chance to network with participants, get to meet new people and catch up with our partners.
On the second day (June 14th), we had presentations all day by industry professionals on different BIM-related topics, with concrete examples and challenges faced across Canada on projects. BIM One was pleased to host its’ own booth. We would like to thank all organizers, sponsors and participants for this wonderful event and we look forward to seeing you at future CanBIM events!
