Nouveau Monde Graphite: Bécancour graphite purification plant

This plant produces high-purity spherical graphite for the electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors.

OVERVIEW

As part of its all-electric graphite mining project, Nouveau Monde Graphite (NMG) wanted to implement a VDC/BIM approach with the aim of adopting the Plant 4.0 concept. Priority requirements for BIM focused on controlling schedules, logistics, project costs and the structure of operations and maintenance information through digital models.

To develop the processes needed to deploy the technologies, NMG appointed BIM One as BIM Manager. Our team was responsible for ensuring compliance with established processes, and for quality control of deliverables produced by project stakeholders.

The use of BIM in this project was aimed at optimizing design, facilitating visualization and planning, reducing construction costs and enabling efficient reuse of information throughout the project lifecycle.

OUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

COORDINATION SUPPORT

  • Create and maintain the project’s BIM realization framework based on required uses, including the BIM Management Plan (BMP), its appendices and related processes;
  • Ensure that Nouveau Monde Graphite’s requirements are communicated to stakeholders at all stages of the project through the BMP, including any necessary updates;
  • Obtain all 3D models from project stakeholders, ensuring that everyone complies with established standards and procedures, including relevant milestones;
  • Organize and maintain the electronic document management system;
  • Ensure that a BIM execution plan (BEP) is produced by the responsible stakeholders and kept up to date;
  • Ensure that the specific data required by Nouveau Monde Graphite is included in all 3D models and kept up to date throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Go through predefined quality controls and audits according to project phase and expected level of development.
